A solar tracking system can benefit from the uplift produced by following the sun across the sky. Trackers use a motor to tilt the panels aligning the sun’s rays throughout the day. It is possible to programme to maximise the sunlight as it changes throughout the seasons. While the technology brings added expense and maintenance, it can increase output by over 20%.
With a well-managed ground mount array project, it is still possible to utilise the land for grazing or can be used to create wildlife habitats. Recent trials have also shown it is possible to grow certain crops under solar photovoltaic panels.
