Edmonds and Co. is a leading shopfitting business with multiple UK sites, including locations in London and Birmingham. With rising energy bills and safety concerns, they contacted us with two goals: 1. Reduce energy costs to increase savings 2. Protect their Birmingham site with a fireman’s switch to ensure fire safety compliance and eliminate worries.
The Challenge
As a company operating across large, multi-site buildings, Edmonds and Co. faced a serious risk. If a fire broke out in a building with rooftop solar panels, firefighters wouldn’t be able to act safely. Water used to extinguish the fire could interact with the live solar system, increasing the risk of further damage or injury.
Without a safe disconnect method, the only option would be to let the building burn. This unacceptable risk prompted them to seek a long-term, protective solution.
Our Solution
We installed a 33.6 kWp rooftop solar PV system on their Birmingham site. In addition to adding new solar panels, we upgraded their existing setup to include a fireman’s switch.
A fireman’s switch is a safety device that disconnects the solar power system in the event of a fire. It ensures firefighters can safely use water without risking electrocution, system re-ignition, or fire spreading to further locations.
The overall cost to instal their new system was £23,925 which included new solar with an upgrade to existing solar, and the integration of a fireman’s switch.
Immersa were able to design and instal this new system in just 7 days with a 4-man team, ensuring their safety and savings came almost immediately.
